Don't Count Us Out Yet!
Stay at the cutting edge of information that will impact the world in the next 10 years.
“In the next decade we’ll experience more progress than in the past 100 years”
- Peter Diamandis, author, The Future is Faster Than You Think
Dear Reader,
Welcome to “Don’t Count Us Out Yet!” This is a newsletter dedicated to helping you stay at the cutting edge of information in the six areas we believe will have the most significant impact on the world over the next 10 years. These are areas that many of us (of a certain age, at least) are still very uneducated about.
If you feel unequipped or uncomfortable about joining a conversation about artificial intelligence, the creation of the metaverse, CRISPR personalized medicine, the Creator economy, Cryptocurrency and FinTech products, or the transition to a sustainable world environment, this newsletter is for you.
Two to three times a month, we will provide you with articles you can read in an hour or less that do not require you to take notes or do more research to make sense of. Hopefully, this will help you better understand what is developing in these areas that will impact you and yours. Comments are appreciated, and we would love to hear from you about ways to make sure we aren’t counted out just yet! So, here goes our premier issue.
Sustainability
Ever wonder HOW man-made emissions are making CO2 a greater part of the atmosphere than ever recorded? We sure have. And this visualization made us understand where exactly big changes have to be made if we want to stop this.
Cryptocurrency
We can’t watch television anymore or go on the internet without hearing either cryptocurrency is the best thing since sliced bread or Crypto is just another instance of financial mania, as were the famed tulip bulbs of 1636.
So what gives? Is this Crypto stuff bullshit or the cream of the crop of new financial technology? Well, here is an article that shifted us towards thinking it might be more cream than crap.
The Metaverse
Facebook has changed its name to Meta and started a proprietary metaverse, Web 3.0, to replace the web as we know it. WTF?
This could have a profound effect on what some are calling the Creator economy. Are we missing the biggest change in consumer technology since the internet? You decide after you read this article.
CRISPER and m/RNA and DNA Vaccines
If there was only one of our six areas in our definition of Web 3.0, which we would tell you that you will not believe how much change is going to happen in the next five years, it would have to be the CRISPER/mRNA area and how vaccines will soon be the leading approach to curing most cancers, HIV, autoimmune disorders and genetic diseases.
Take a quick read of the following interview with microbiologist Deborah Fuller of the University of Washington and we bet you will agree with us that medicine is poised to leap ahead in ways that we haven’t seen since we discovered how to treat bacterial issues.
Creator Economy
We are sure you have heard the term “Creator Economy” mentioned many times in the news over the past year and wondered how big this area is. Is it something that I might do in my career? What does this really mean?
And for those of you already in the Creator Economy and know what it means, you might be wondering where is it headed in the next year and how might I be able to take advantage of the trends?
Well, Fast Company answered some of those questions for you with the following article, and if you are one of the 50 million they say are trying to make a career out of this new economy, which already has 41 percent averaging a living wage of $69,000 a year, you will enjoy the trend they mention that might add to your bottom line.
Artificial Intelligence
Ever since Isaac Newton had an apple drop on his head and created his theory on gravity, which was proven right, we have made scientific advancements by creating new theories on how the world and humans work by observing small amounts of data and then making some A-HA theory that is new to be proven by scientific observations and experiments.
But what if artificial intelligence, through the use of Machine Learning with or without human help can quickly go through millions of pieces of data and point out anomalies we would not have been aware of ourselves?
It probably is a bit early to say the old way of creating new scientific approaches from hypothesize, predict and test is obsolete; however, the addition of AI is already to the point where what we call intuition or hunches can also be created by AI/Machine Learning.
Last but not least….
In my many years of doing research and teaching I ended my sessions with something that pokes the mind into action in perhaps a funny or unusual way. Here’s one for today.
Do we really want tech companies and only tech-trained professionals to be at the forefront of the next revolution?
See you next issue…
Best, Craig
P.S. Would love to hear your comments or suggestions.
