Editor's Note: Gene Therapy Category
As of July 22, the CRISPR category will now be titled gene therapy.
As most of you know, we have dedicated our Don’t Count Us Out Yet newsletter to making non-tech professionals and students first aware and then somewhat educated on the six areas in tech and science/medicine which we think will be the biggest creators of human advancements in the next 10 years.
We classified these areas as CRISPR genetic engineering, Crypto/Fin-tech, the creator economy, the metaverse, artificial intelligence and sustainable planet.
Effective today, as we start to engage with our readers and interested parties, we are changing the CRISPR title to gene therapy due to some confusion about what CRISPR is. We have always thought of the area as one that uses genetic engineering breakthroughs to identify the gene mutations needed to be addressed to cure diseases rather than an approach to delivering drugs or cell changes to do this.
Unfortunately, when we talked to some educated professionals about this, they assumed we were talking about CRISPR as a company or some overall cure. Gene therapy for us means using a two-step approach in identifying the issues in your genes that are causing problems and then finding a solution to that problem, which might be different for each individual. It is a huge breakthrough in our minds and changes the way cures for diseases will be addressed.
Look for many upcoming articles on this in our gene therapy area. Thanks to all of you for your feedback!
Best,
