When I started my first research business in the 1990s, aside from thinking I was going to create a new way to do investment research, I had two other important items in mind.
First, I needed to have enough resources for the business to survive 18-24 months. Second, even if it failed, the research I was doing would make me a very good conversationalist at a coffee shop or happy hour.
During the soft launch of “Don’t Count Us Out Yet!” we will keep those two items in mind for if we do formally launch! Therefore, we thought we would share some NFT statistics you might like to talk about with friends, family, business associates or anyone else the next time you are at a coffee shop or happy hour.
Consider the following.
Do you know what percent of the U.S. has owned an NFT as of the end of 2021? 2 percent.
Do you know which country has the highest percentage of adults who have owned an NFT? The Philippines with 32 percent.
If you are like us, that number, along with a few other countries in Asia with percentages higher than 20 percent, blew us away. Further digging into why, we found that these are countries where adults play games for NFT tokens, which can be exchanged for real currencies. We’ll touch on more of that in the future issues…
Safe to say, the U.S. population has a lot of catching up to do in this Web 3.0 era.
As a follow up to that thought, 70 percent of Americans don’t even know what an NFT is. Men outnumber women by a 3-1 ratio in the ownership of NFTs in America. However, in Asia the ratio is about 50-50.
Although the NFTs minted by Elon Musk or the artist Banksy sell for millions of dollars, the average price of NFTs is way below, ranging $100-200.
One more highlight we liked was the incredible growth of NFT usage by creators, such as musicians, writers and chefs to make middle class incomes. NFTs are also used for charities, with great projects in the works for the Ukraine charities. It seems like we are just at the beginning of what is going to happen.
