OpenAI ChatGPT releases a search engine to compete with Google and Perplexity

Search engines + paid advertising = the Golden Goose of consumer tech products.
Before artificial intelligence developed major breakthroughs, Google had an iron grip on this product category with more than 90 percent of searches from phones and computers originating with their product. However, with success comes issues, such as too many ads. So much so, their customer base has become more and more frustrated with advertising links surfacing first, and many users are looking for an alternative.
Enter AI products: first Perplexity, now Chatbot GPT search, and soon Meta, Anthropic and xAI’s Grok. Meanwhile, Google is currently integrating AI into some of its search products. The search area is becoming ripe for disruption because of the current “junkiness” of advertising-based search. Each new AI product has a niche search that may chip away at Google in their monthly subscription product.
Take Perplexity, for example, rather than being a general search engine, it is becoming known by students and academics as a specialized tool for research questions. Additionally, Amazon is most likely going to team up for some business-oriented or shopping search. So far, ChatGPT search is positive, but not ramping the way the original product did. And Apple AI, which is really a chatbot, has a lot of negative comments out there that need to be corrected. Right now, we suggest waiting and seeing the different approaches to AI search engines.
