Apple recently introduced the Vision Pro - a mixed reality headset that is exceeding expectations and raising industry standards.
“Welcome to the era of spatial computing,” Apple states on its website. “Apple Vision Pro seamlessly blends digital content with your physical space.”
Using your eyes, hands and voice, you will use the Vision Pro to navigate your desktop, apps, messages and notes in front of you on an infinite canvas. Time to join a meeting? Get ready for connecting with life-size video tiles and collaborating on documents simultaneously.
This headset doubles as an immersive workspace and an engaging way to experience entertainment. Whether you are on a flight or at home on your couch, you have the option to enjoy 4K TV with spatial audio features.

Now these features have been long expected, similar to talk about future holograms and virtual reality gaming, but this next feature will take photo and video content to a whole new level. It’s no secret the way we’ve captured memories has changed over time, but how much more clear can it get?
The Vision Pro includes Apple’s first 3D camera, which can capture spatial photos and videos in 3D, as well as panoramas that wrap around you.
However, these new features make it sound like you’ll be quite disconnected from the real world. To avoid complete isolation, the headset uses a system called EyeSight to display your eyes, or if you’re unavailable, it will display a glowing screen, according to The Verge. Additionally, the device uses passthrough video, which allows you to view the real world in full color. In simple terms, you aren’t only seeing the apps in front of you, but you are seeing the apps as an addition to your real world setting.
This headset has taken decades of design to perfect, containing five sensors, 12 cameras, a 4K display for each eye and a fan-cooled computer. For spatial audio, the speakers are located near your ears, but don’t act as headphones to keep you aware of your surroundings.
Despite all of these amazing features, advertising that the headset can be used anywhere is limited. It’s true that it can be used in any location, but unless you’re plugged in, the headset will only last up to two hours.

While this industry hasn’t taken off yet, there is one other competitor that has already launched its product. Meta released its Meta Quest 2 on October 13, 2020, with a drop in price from $499.99 to $429.99. Meta released a second headset, the Meta Quest Pro on October 25, 2022 at an introductory price of $1,499.99, which has decreased to $999.99.
Although Apple has already introduced the Vision Pro, it won’t be released until 2024 at a price of $3,499. The price, significantly higher than Meta’s headsets, has raised both positive and negative feedback. In comparison to Meta, Apple has made the headset stand out as a luxury item. However, with lack of affordability, many people believe the price is set far too high, but I’m sure they said the same thing about the iPhone and Mac once upon a time.
We believe the wait for the Apple headset has been worth it. This launch is going to reflect the transition from the computer to the laptop. At first, it will seem almost unimaginable and too expensive, but its mobility and futuristic features will become the norm in society.
